Sexual Assertiveness, Orgasm Frequency and Sexual Satisfaction

Sexual Assertiveness, Satisfaction & Orgasm Frequency
The story I’m trying to convey here is about the relationship of sexual assertiveness in women, sexual satisfaction and different contexts of orgasm frequency. The data set is adapted from a larger data set from my first publication. The project examines different variables' relationships with orgasm frequency and sexual satisfaction. For the purpose of this blogpost, I am isolating only sexual assertiveness as a predictor variable. Without going into too much depth, I wanted to visualize some of the data I gathered in a more dynamic way using R. If the subject matter or results peak your interest, you can read the full paper (check out the publication section of my website) or look at a copy of a more detailed conference poster I’ve presented on this topic (presentation section).
The Role of Sexual Assertiveness
In my research project, sexual assertiveness was shown to be the strongest predictor of orgasm frequency in different contexts, as well as sexual satisfaction in general. I looked at four different orgasm contexts: with self (masturbation), with a familiar partner, with a new partner, and multiple orgasm frequency.
Orgasm with a Familiar Partner
The plot below showcases the relationship between sexual assertiveness and sexual satisfaction, but the size of each “bubble”" in the scatterplot corresponds to the level of sexual satisfaction reported (larger circles indicate higher reported levels of satisfaction). As you can see, higher sexual assertiveness scores indicate higher levels of satisfaction, at least within the context of a familiar partner.
Examining Age
Below is the same plot, but it examines participant age as well. Interestingly, the relationship appears to stay consistent even as age increases. The plot also depicts that as age increases, reported satisfaction looks to decrease somewhat, as some age ranges have smaller “bubbles”, even when reported orgasms with partner are high. This is especially interesting because it indicates that orgasm frequency and satisfaction are not mutually exclusive, per se.
Sexual Assertiveness, Satisfaction and Orgasm in Different Contexts
This plot illustrates the relationship that sexual satisfaction has with different orgasm contexts and frequency (incidence of multiple orgasms). As you can see, there are only positive relationships. Clearly, sexual assertiveness is a good skill to foster for increased satisfaction/orgasms in many orgasm contexts.
